Seq. 8-3, "Undersea Life and Growth" animated by John McManus (probably - once in a while they mean (Dan) MacManus), Josh Meador, Frank Grundeen and Jim Will.
Seq. 8-4, "Pterodactyls" animated by Paul Busch, Frank Grundeen, Frank Follmer, Jack (John) Harbaugh, Art Palmer, George DeBeeson and a Patterson (Don or Ray - any takers?).
"Creature" animation is likely to be John McManus. Similarly, although on the Dumbo draft, "Patterson" (with no first name given) refers to Ray, this Patterson seems to share the pterodactyls with effects animators such as Art Palmer, so it seems likely to be Don Patterson.
ReplyDeleteHere's a picture that's circulating the internet, faturing Billy Bob, Walt and Leopold working on the udnerwater sequnce:

I'd say it's Don Patterson animating the Pterodactyls. They seem more mechanical than expressivley textured.
Thanks for the comments, guys! Keep'em coming!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd go for Don Patterson - because it's so unlikely for Ray Patterson working on them - because he worked on a lot of comedy like (Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, Clowns in Dumbo), so it can't be going, and I'm sticking to Don Patterson, although both Pattersons were brothers and later worked closely with each other on stuff like Yogi Bear, the Flintstones, etc!
