This draft named FINAL 3 is dated 3/14/49.
Animation by Ollie Johnston and Hal Ambro. I always liked the scenes with Toad in remorse, and I was glad - and not all to surprised - to see it was Ollie who animated this.
Harold "Hal" Ambro, in July 1946 in room 1G-12, was at Disney from 1945 to 63 and again in 66, according to Alberto's page. In between he worked on Gay Purr-ee, and afterwards on, among others, Charlotte's Web and Raggedy Ann. Like with so many other animators, I'd like to hear more about this man. In this case, several of you "out there" may have worked with him, so feel free to comment!
Ollie and Hal Ambro sure did a lot of work with eachother in the late 1940s. Johnny Appleseed, this, Ichabod, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they shared scenes on 'Make mine music' and 'Song of the south' as well.
ReplyDeleteHopefully some Cal Arts-ians will drop by with stories of the later Hal Ambro, since he taught animation at Cal Arts in the 80's after he had retired.
ReplyDeleteOllie makes sense here with his assignment, but I always thought the rest were by Fred Moore, but instead it was Hal Ambro. I imagine that Hal had a good time working on Toad putting on the disguise.
