For the 50th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, the Museum of Modern Art had a complete retrospective of all the Mickey cartoons. It was truly joyous in those theaters watching the earlier B&W cartoons; they were so funny. The loudest laugh of one particular program was when Mickey, in the very first scene, turns to the camera - in tight closeup - and whispers loudly, "Gorilla!" The audience roared. I've loved that short ever since even though the dvd doesn't bring quite the same laugh.

Now I know that Burt Gillett animated it. I'm getting to like his work more and more.
