Animation by Jerry Rees, Darrell van Citters, Cliff Nordberg, John Musker, Randy Cartwright and Chris Buck.
Well, folks, this marks the end of the The Fox and the Hound draft. I hope you enjoyed it, and I will go digging for something "new..."
As always, my "Standard Disclaimer" is also in order here: animation drafts were never meant as historical documents but as a go-to list of assignments that showed the production office and follow-up functions like checking and I&P who the animator responsible for a scene is so that any questions with regards to the scene can be asked to this person. It is also kept as a means to calculate footage throughout the film so that credits may be established, though on this film we have seen that that is not always the case. Eventually only the scene folder itself will reflect who did the work.

Ted Berman returns to complete the Squeeks saga, most of which here is animated by Cliff Nordberg himself, excluding the first couple scenes. Glad he got to see it through before his unfortunate and untimely death prior to the films completion and release. Nord is one of my favorite Disney animators, and this is a decent send off for him, the film itself a decent send off to the classic Disney era of the 9 old men.

In the years immediately preceding his untimely passing, Nordberg was the Disney specialist for comedic characters, which he animated whith great vitality (his scenes in The Small One where the highlight of the film).
Apparently, he was considered sort of an "official heir" of Ward Kimball, John Lounsbey and John Sibley.

Masterfully done as always, Hans! You once said you had all the animated drafts up until The Fox and the Hound: the ones you haven't done yet of those 24 movies are Bambi, Saludos Amigos, Make Mine Music, The Aristocats, Robin Hood & The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. If I had to pick, can you please do Robin Hood or The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh next, Hans?
The film finishes with mostly predictable casting. Big Mama is included in Cliff Nordberg's bird unit, with one scene by miscellaneous animator Darrell Van Citters.
It's been an interesting draft, but as Hans is always quick to point out, it doesn't tell the whole story. I'd be interested to know which scenes were originally assigned to the Bluthites before they left and who picked them up instead. I'm wondering if the many scenes of the human characters by Jerry Rees and John Musker were originally intended for Don Bluth and John Pomeroy.
What's the deal with "Squeeks" the caterpillar's "as himself" type credit in the opening titles, writ larger than some of the actual voice cast? Were they hoping he would become a breakout character or something?
Do you take requests for drafts? I’ve been trying to find the Bambi draft for years and would LOVE to see it! I understand if you’re really busy and have no time for this kind of thing anymore 🙂
Eric Zimmer: I do want to do more posting, but since I relocated to SoCal I have only a small scanner and that rules out any feature drafts for now. I do have a few shorts drafts that I scanned a while ago while still in Denmark, and I will be posting them soon - the first one went up today, 11/18/2020.
wortzmadelyn: I do have Bambi, but not "ready to go up," for the same reason as above. If you have a specific thing you'd like to know, let me know and I can see if I can find it.
