Prod. 2003 - Pinocchio
From February to May last year, Michael Sporn published the first
23 pages, close to one-fifth, of the draft to Prod. 2003 (a.k.a. F-3), Pinocchio, one of Walt Disney's Most Glorious masterpieces. The items posted on Mike's and Jenny's blogs and on Cartoon Brew around this time were instrumental to my starting the blog you are reading, and now I think the time has come to finish what Mike has started, if there is enough interest in it. Can I see a show of hands here?
Several years ago I found (and, mind you, I paid $400 for) the Pinocchio draft that I will share with you (again: if there is enough interest among you!). This actual copy was originally used in the Background Morgue at the Walt Disney studios.
The following images are of the outside of the folder around my draft, followed by the left and right insides, both lists of the sequences in the film. I do not know why there is a separate (negative) number "862-343: Atmosphere Sketches" on the right one, or why exactly this list was compiled this way...

Oh, and - did you check out the great 30 foot Jiminy Cricket animation by Milt Kahl from Seq. 3 Sc. 26 on Mike Sporn's blog today? Mike is right when he notes: "Something tells me the MoCap version of this scene wouldn’t work quite like this. I’m not completely convinced that even a cgi version would have such personality."

You've done everybody a huge service by publishing the drafts of the shorts. I would love to see the rest of the Pinocchio draft and any other feature draft material you care to share. Thanks.

It was reading the sparse information about the Pinocchio animators in Cristopher Finch's "The Art of Walt Disney" which first got me interested in identifying the work of golden age animators. As such it's always been a film I'd love to know more about who animated what on.
