Walt's Great New Plans
That Bambi (prod. 2002) truly was conceived as the follow-up to Snow White (prod. 2001) is here described as a rumor, though this was the case up to about a week before Snow White's premiere, when Walt announced that Pinocchio would be proritised. In any case, the article gives us an interesting insight into Walt's plans and how much of them were public knowledge...

"I don't care," he has said."how long Bambi takes. It has to be done right. This is one picture we won't rush."
Walt may have said those words in 1938, but Jack Schnerk, who was an assistant on the film, said that the end of the production - the last six months - everyone worked seven days a week pushing on the film to try to get it done. People were sleeping in the studio to meet the demands that were placed on them. Jack left the studio after the experience of that film.
Regardless, it ended up a masterpiece.
I wonder if the rush was the ever present 'end of production rush' or was caused by the impending possibility of war in Europe.
