- Snow White by Ham Luske, Grim Natwick, Jack Campbell and Paul Busch. Dwarfs by Bill Tytla, Fred Moore, Dick Lundy, Les Clark, Fred Spencer, Marvin Woodward and Riley [Thomson]. Animals by Jim Algar and effects by Andy Engman. Marc Davis, Max Grey and Amby Paliwoda animated either Snow White or dwarfs.
I suggest that "Riley" is Riley Thomson, on Snow White the assistant to Dick Huemer according to Alberto Becattini. Now - there was also a Larry Riley somewhere who started at Fleisher ca. 1938, and who knows, maybe he was an assistant at Disney in 37? Things like that were seen before - Izzy Ellis is not a known Disney entity, and yet his name is all over a lot of 1937 Action Analysis Classes I have. [See the comments where it is pointed out that this could not be Larry Riley!]
I will have to leave further analysis to my trusted commenters, as
I really do not have a lot of time to wallow in this material today!

I knew Larry Riley. He was definitely never an artist at Disney's studio. You're probably right that it's Riley Thomson.

Here's the sequence that we know is directed by Wilfred Jackson. Terrell Stapp would have done the layouts. And he's casting Marvin Woodward and Les Clark!

Hans, I can't thank you enough for all the work you put into this blog. I get lost on here for hours reading the meeting notes or going through the shot assignment lists. It's a journey back in time and for that I thank you. Definitely one of the best art/animation blogs online. Keep up the great work.
By scene 49E, there's some writing that I can't make out, so if anyone can that would help. Another interesting thing is in scenes 43 and 44. Based on the color of the sleeves, we would assume it to be Dopey's but currently he's dancing so this is an error that the Disney studio didn't catch.
One this scene shows is the contrast between the Dwarfs and Snow White in their design style. Snow's proportions are more realistic and thus she doesn't quite seem to fit in with the Dwarfs. Not, that it matters too much I like this sequence overall, and for some reason I really like Grumpy's expression in scene 60, it just seems to match him.
49E looks to have "checked out to John Lounsbery" written next to it.

You are right, Michael, that is just what it says at 49E! As I said before, this copy is made from the Morgue draft, hence this type of notes. (There are such no notes in the draft originally kept at the BG Morgue, but otherwise it is completely identical.)
You'll notice Ham also seems to do some animal animation again. According to Barrier he was the supervising animator for them as well.
"Riley" also appears on the draft for the washing tub scene, animating the close-up of the fly on the soap.
A few more oddities:
The third shot, of the dwarfs dancing, is not on the draft except for a hand-written "scene 3 here" between scenes 2 and 4.
Scene 25, where Sneezy tries to sing a verse, seems to have been cut. I guess having two sneeze gags in the same sequence would have been overkill. I'm interested to know what the words were going to be.
Scene 28 "Snow White and Bashful dancing" supposedly has "no other dwarfs in set-up" but there they are in the film!
Scene 49A just credits Spencer but presumably Ham or Grim or someone animated on it as well as Snow White is in shot.
I suspect that Amby, Gray and Marc animated Snow White along with Ham, as we know that Marc Davis was one of Grim's assistants, and their names appear in the same place as Campbell and Grim's names for similar scenes (above the names of Ham and a dwarf animator).
Hi, I stumbled upon your post. My grandfather was Izzy Ellis and did work for Disney as an animator, unfortunately, I know his name was changed or not used a lot due to being Jewish. Would love to know where to see his name in print that you saw. Thank you
Hi Maggie! Great to hear from you! Do you have any more info about your grandfather and possibly his time at Disney's? I know that the Walt Disney Archives does not have him in their files, so ANY information would be interesting!
As you can see on Alberto's pages (link on the right), he is not known to have worked at Disney's. Alberto has this employment info: "Animator: IWERKS 35; SCHLESINGER/WARNER BROS. 36-45; WARNER BROS. 44-48 ; KRANTZ/PARAMOUNT c67-68 ; HANNA-BARBERA c68-79."
