Prod. 2004 - Fantasia (VII)  - Seq. 5.5 (Nutcracker Suite: Trepak - Russian Dance)

1920
Directed by Sam Armstrong, assisted by [Norman] Wright and Lloyd Richardson. Layout by Al Zinnen. This draft dated 6/17/40.

Another animation highlight, thistles dancing with orchids by Art Babbitt, helped by Art Fitzpatrick and Tom Barnes. Fitzpatrick we remember from David Lesjak's posting on Van Kaufman, while we found Tom Barnes in room 1D-11.

Now - what is this "See Efx draft"???

I'm not an expert in animation, but it seems to me that many of the effects could not be achieved in the same medium (drawings on paper traced onto cels with ink and paint) as the character animation. Maybe this is why there sometimes needs to be a separate draft for effects... and may explain the absence of some names (specifically, that of Robert Martsch) from drafts.

I love the animation of the Flowers dancing, (I must say) it's probably the most memorable music I know in this piece!

Wonderful animation by Art Babbitt, interesting that his assistant Art Fitzpatrick shared his scenes. I'm guessing that Fitzpatrick probably did shadows, or maybe that Babbitt did poses for the flowers, and Fitzpatrick did inbetweens!
