Prod. 2074 - Peter Pan (III) - Seq. 02.1 - Learning to Fly
This FINAL draft dated 10/1/52.
Hal King (John, Michael), Harvey Toombs (Wendy, Peter), Milt Kahl (Peter, Wendy, John, Michael), Marc Davis (Tink), Ward Kimball (John), Eric Larson (Peter, Wendy), Clarke Mallory (Peter, Wendy, John, Michael), Hal Ambro (Wendy), Clair Weeks (Tink).
Again we have the usual majors (Milt, Marc), captains (Hal King, Harvey Toombs, Hal Ambro) and foot-soldiers (Clarke Mallory, Clair Weeks). Alberto Becattini has "Mallery" as Clarke Mallory, and notes that he also did voice work on the shorts in the early 50s.
5 Comments:
So far Harvey Toombs seems to be coupled around Larson's scenes, and Ken O'brien is with Kahl.
Clark Mallery and Ward Kimball are nice surprses. Didn't Clark used to be Kimball's assistant?
In this and the previous sequence, we find Kahl animating Peter and O'Brien animating Wendy when the camera cuts between the two characters... as if Peter was his priority character and he was willing to hand the Wendy scenes down to the "lower" animator.
I wonder why Ward animates that one scene of John pretending to "cross swords" -- maybe he gets some scenes with John and actual pirates in later sequences?
Kimball's one scene of John in this sequence seems so... lackluster. That is, compared to his usual output. It feels very restrained, compared to how he handles the Lost Boys and the Indians later on in the film.
Can't wait for more, Hans! Thanks again for sharing!
Clarke Mallory? Wow, that's a name I've never heard of before. I can always learn from these drafts.
From what I've gathered - that one shot by Ward Kimball could mean he probably supervised John & Michael - as well as his infamous credit for the Indian Chief.
Possibly Milt Kahl and Ward Kimball supervised John and Michael between them? (like how Kahl and Eric Larson supervised Peter and Wendy)
