I remember, back in my mentor Børge Ring's attic in 1981, pegging photocopies of Sc. 79 and inbetweening them to ones to see the difference (and just for exercise). The scene was on twos with a few ones in the Boo! part. The ones gave it a kind of solidity, heaviness, but it removed some of the life. The whole bit did instill in me an awe of Milt's abilities as a draughtsman...

Milt Kahl animates the lengthy introduction of the vultures, and their introduction to Mowgli, with Hal King getting a few wide shots of the kid.
The song (vultures and Mowgli) is mostly animated by Hal King and Eric Larson, with the first shot by John Lounsbery (I guess he was the supervising animator for the song?).
When Shere Khan enters, the animators are cast-by-character, with Kahl animating Shere Khan (naturally), Eric Larson animating the vultures, and Hal King (sassing Shere Khan) and Walt Stanchfield (grabbing the club) animating Mowgli.
Fred Hellmich co-animates the establishing shot of the vultures. John Lounsbery's name is on a shot of Shere Khan, a re-use of a Milt Kahl scene. Dick Lucas' name is on a shot of Baloo, a re-use of a Frank Thomas scene.
Another great sequence, and the vultures were a particular favourite of mine. Probably because they're caricatured like The Beatles (by the way, could you imagine them providing the voices for them?). The barbershop quartet song. Notice there are a lot of eclectic choices for the film in terms of music, but it all works.
The casting of the vultures is intriguing, it's been long attributed Eric Larson primarily animated the vultures, but he only animates a fair amount, compared to Hal King and Milt Kahl. Gotta love Milt's use of caricature of Shere Khan, who does a solid job in making the character entertaining and intimidating at the same time (and George Sanders, of course).
