Prod. 2004 - Fantasia (XIV) - Seq. 8-6 (Rite of Spring: Fight)
Animation by Woolie Reitherman, Jim Will, Josh Meador, John Tucker, Paul Busch, Jack Gayek, George DeBeeson, John Sibley, Art Palmer, Steve Bosustow, Jack Harbaugh, Frank Follmer, Hoffman and Ed Aardal. Alberto on his interesting pages has several Hoffmans listed - this looks to me to be Dave Hoffman, who has no Disney credits, however - but he seems to have been between jobs in 1940...
The person who is, of course, most remembered for this sequence, and rightfully so, is Woolie Reitherman. The other character animators working on this sequence, Sibley, Bosustow and Busch animate the secondary characters, whose simplified names we hear here. This sequence obviously had some reworking, as several scenes were deleted.

Although it was hinted at on the draft for the previous sequence, here we can really see Woolie as the "star" and Paul Busch as a "supporting player"... this is similar to the way they were cast in some of Bill Roberts' Pinocchio sequences, although on Pinocchio the two animators shared the same characters more often.
Ah yes, Woolie's famous dinosaur battle - must've been hard for him on it, with the Tyrranosaurus and the Stegosaurus fighting - a lot of scenes that are 2 feet or 1 feet; although usually credits depend on screen footage; but I think that Woolie worked really hard that it didn't take him really quick!
Ken Peterson actually was the assistant for the fight sequence!
The animator casting is brilliant here, but the timing is inconsistent. Sometimes the animation works perfectly with the music, and other times it does not.
