Animation by Clair Weeks doing birds to start, some effects by George Rowley. Jim, Darling and Sarah by Jack Campbell, Ken O'brien, and Bob Carlson. Lady animated by George Nicholas, Don Lusk, Henry Tanous, Woolie Reitherman, George Kreisl, and Cliff Nordberg, with one scene by Al Coe. The siamese cats, of course, by John Sibley, Bob Carlson, Bill Justice. A reaction shot of Aunt Sarah by Harvey Toombs, and pet shop scenes mostly by Hal Ambro.
Uncredited animator central here! And I didn't think I'd get to see Nord away from Geronimi at this point, but here it is.
I think Bob Carlson did not do as much as in the final picture since he was too busy working on Sleeping Beauty, Krisel animates Lady here, as well as Henry Tanous, Lusk, Ambro Nordberg & Nicholas, since Sibley and Justice animates the cats here, I think Carlson was responsible for animating the cats close ups and slow movements. Jack Cambell finally got a descent amount of work to do on probably Aunt Sarah. Carslon animates a shot of Sarah too. He in total animate 3 solo scenes and 4 scenes paired with other animators in this sequence . Krisel here ,like Carlson, little amount of footage here also doing 3 shots of Lady, so in total in this sequence : Carslon animated 7 scenes, Krisel 3, Nicholas 10, Tanous 3, Sibley 7, Lusk 6, Cambell 2, Nordberg 5, Justice 4, Toombs 2, Ambro 4 & Coe 1. And for Woolie, I don't know yer.
Wow, quite a few uncredited animators here - Bill Justice, Al Coe, Clair Weeks and Henry Tanous.
Jack Campbell joins the "human" animators" (Ken O'Brien, Harvey Toombs, Hal Ambro), animating the main couple and Aunt Sarah -- who is also animated, in a couple of scenes, by George Nicholas and John Sibley, in conjunction with animal charaters.
Presumably Woolie supervised the animation - at least of Lady, in the Siamese Cats section - and even though he's not a director yet there's a lot of reused animation from other parts of the film - surely that was Woolie's decision.
Once again George Nicholas animates several Lady scenes, this time along with Cliff Nordberg, George Kreisl, and a few scenes by Ken O'Brien, Don Lusk, Al Coe and Henry Tanous. (We've seen Lusk and Nordberg animating Tramp before, but not Lady. And O'Brien has animated Lady in a couple of scenes before, but mostly human characters)
In the pet shop scenes Hal Ambro and Harvey Toombs once again handle the scenes where humans and dogs appear together.
Oh, and it should be no surprise that Don Lusk animated the goldfish! :)
Looking at the previous page posted from the previous sequence, looks like Jack Campbell only appears to get a few scenes, whereas I recall Michael Barrier once e-mailed me that Campbell animated the Aunt in that sequence. Whilst he does, although only shots where they're partially seen.
The Siamese Cats sequence are a real treat from Sibley, Carlson and Justice who contribute to some loose animation. If you thought Kimball was the original animator on the sequence..Art Stevens was also another possible candidate to work on the sequence before he was pulled off (Source: Interview).
Clair Weeks worked on that first shot with the birds? Wow. He left Disney as early as 1952; to move to India where he pioneered animation over there. I'm not too certain of the film's animation dates; but judging that the sequence was completed 9.6.1955 -- and how Kimball was supposed to work on the sequence...I think it's only a safe bet at best that the sequence was most likely backlogged for sometime.
Cristopher, Bob Carlson was also an animator on shorts, so please don't guess he was busy working on SLEEPING BEAUTY...as he most likely wasn't working on the film by the time work was prepared for him in this sequence.
As for the scenes, well, I don't judge by how many times their names appears--I just go with the footage output...that's what counts!
or maybe Weeks made a brief return as someone else's assistant? Incidental birds don't really seem like the type of assignment he would have been given when he worked for Marc Davis.
We get a tantalising glimpse of changes made to the film - most of Woolie's scenes are listed as re-uses from a sequence 4.0... which doesn't exist any more! Was that an alternative version of this sequence, maybe?
How can this be dated 9/6/1955 if the movie was released in June of 1955?
Matthew: Almost looks like when the film first came out it had a different version of this sequence, numbered 4.0, then for some reason after the premiere they almost completely reanimated it and numbered it 4.1, keeping only a few scenes from the original 4.0.
According to Alberto's Page, and to notes I took (either from an AWN animation podcast or a Floyd Norman column), Clair Weeks worked briefly on "Sleeping Beauty". So maybe he was back at the studio in 1955? (it would make more sense than crediting him on the draft for three-year-old footage)
