Prod. 2082 (Sleeping Beauty) - Seq. 17.0 Prince Captured. Fairies Discover his Capture

Directed by Gerry Geronimi, laid out by Tom Codrick and Ernie Nordli.

Animation by Ken Hultgren, Milt Kahl (Prince & Samson), John Sibley (Prince & Goons), Marc Davis (Maleficent), Blaine Gibson (Raven & Fairies), Jack Bailey (Raven through scene), Harvey Toombs and Ollie Johnston (Fairies).

In Joe Campana's 4/3/57 Disney directory, Jack Bailey is in the shorts building, and he is tagged as "Mother Superior" by the person who originally had this directory. One wonders...

Prod. 2082 (Sleeping Beauty) - Seq. 14.0 Girl Pricks Finger

Directed by Eric Larson, laid out by Mac Stewart.
Assistant director Geo Probert.

Animation by Harvey Toombs, Ollie Johnston, Hal Ambro, Hal King, John Kennedy, Don Lusk, Marc Davis, and one scene by director Larson. Effects by Jim Will and Josh Meador.

According to the 4/3/57 directory that Joe Campana posted, John Kennedy around this time shared room 1D-14 with Milt Kahl.
But this may be a typo, as Kahl was normally next door to Marc Davis, in 1D-4. Since Kennedy was in 1D, it seems unlikely he was effects animator. Does anyone know more about him?

I'm really quite surprised at how few ripples these documents make in the blogosphere. It's not like anyone has ever published these before.

Prod. 2082 (Sleeping Beauty) - Seq. 13.0 Kings at King Stefan's Castle

Skumps! Directed by Gerry Geronimi, laid out by Tom Codrick and Ernie Nordli. Assistant director Ed Hansen.

Animation by Blaine Gibson (Pigeons), Bob Carlson, Milt Kahl, John Sibley and John Lounsbery (Kings) and one scene by Ken Hultgren.

Basically, the first part of this sequence has the kings animated by Milt Kahl, and in the second part they are by John Lounsbery. The lackey, a comedy action character, is animated by John Sibley. Kahl and Lounsbery then take turns at the exchange between King Hubert and Prince Phillip, with a bit of reuse from Seq. 8.

Prod. 2082 (Sleeping Beauty) - Seq. 12.0 Girl Returns

Seq. 09.0 is followed by Seq. 12.0, Sc. 13.
Again, directed by Eric Larson, laid out by MacLaren Stewart.

Animation by Marc Davis (Rose), Hal Ambro (Rose and Fairies), Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston (Fairies), Jack Bailey and Blaine Gibson (Raven).
(I suspect the J. Davis in sc. 27.1 should read M. Davis).

With its approx. 145 feet, this is the smallest sequence, the fifth to be scheduled OK to Ink. It features a nice sampling of controlled acting by Frank and Ollie.

Prod. 2082 (Sleeping Beauty) - Seq. 08.0 Boy Meets Girl

Happy 4th of July, folks - to celebrate, here is the key sequence of the picture, the first one boarded! And it is a big one. With its estimated 925 feet (which is 10 minutes 16 seconds 16 frames),
it was by far the longest one, the fourth sequence "ok to ink."
Directed by Eric Larson, laid out by MacLaren Stewart.

Animation by Hal Ambro, Iwao Takamoto, Marc Davis, Les Clark (Rose), Hal King, Walt Stanchfield, Don Lusk, Cliff Nordberg, Blaine Gibson (animals), Milt Kahl (Prince & Samson the Horse), John Lounsbery (Prince, Horse and animals).

Scene 83 (Gibson/Takamoto) is the one being worked on in page 136 of Bob Thomas' The Art of Animation (1958). So who is the person with the pencil (and cigarette) also seen from the back in the picture on the following page?
