Prod. 2006 - Dumbo (IV)

080910111213
Seq. 03.2 "Stork Delivers Dumbo - Dumbo Named"
Directed by Wilfred Jackson, assistant director Jacques [Roberts?], layout Terrell Stapp.
This 2nd draft dated 1/22/41.

This is one of the sequences with missing names. Bill Tytla animated the elephants. We know, however, that Art Babbitt animated the stork, so me are not missing that much - this is basically a continuation of the previous sequence. It would be nice to have more info on the lesser-acting scenes, like where Mrs. Jumbo signs the receipt book, or the scene where the stork hangs on the pole after he is yanked out of the train.

Its interesting that all the elephants animation is credited to Bill Tytla, and yet none of the stork's scenes are attributed, its probably more likely that Art Babbitt did the rest, and the names had not been written written.

Even with so much info missing, there's still some interesting stuff here, although sometimes it's raising more questions than answers! I'm intrigued by that "Scenes 34 to 53, inclusive, are out" after the scene of the stork hanging on the mail hook. I wonder if the missing scenes were an alternative version of the rest of the sequence, or some sort of stork business that was cut.

Reminds me of the Pinocchio draft, where "scenes 5.5 to 77" were "out of picture" ... and the Platinum Edition DVD revealed that originally the scene went on to include hallucinations, and Figaro and even Geppetto considering eating Cleo! (parts of which seem to have been turned into the short "Figaro and Cleo" three years later, also directed by Kinney)
